Dread the thought of traveling with kitty? A simple plan will work wonders. Most cats are not fond of traveling, and although she may protest, she should be contained within a secure cat carrier. Here are some tips before, during and after the journey to make it easy on everyone.
- Welcome kittyIf visiting a friend or relative, make sure kitty is welcome at your destination and that there will be a place for her litter box.
- Home sweet homeLine the crate with a towel or bedding from your home so it will smell familiar to kitty. You can also put food inside and leave the door open so she can explore.
- Stock upHave plenty of food and essential supplies on hand so you don't run out once you've arrived.
- Cool catIf it is a hot day, make sure the car is ventilated with circulating air and never leave kitty inside a hot car, even if you stop for a break.
- The soothing touchDon't forget to pet her now and again during the ride.
- Give her time to adjustShe may prefer to stay in her cat crate for awhile until she's ready to explore on her own.
- Job well done!Give her a fun reward such as a new catnip mouse or yummy treat upon arrival.
