Cats may live up to their reputation as finicky eaters, but there are some strategies to make feeding simple. Two easy ways to feed your cat are either to get on a schedule that works for both you and kitty, or free feeding where food is always there for her. Even so, some cats may eat a healthy amount one day and not much at all the next...don't panic!
- Super EasyDry cat food can be left out all day and she will eat when she wants to. Replace any food that's left in the bowl at least once a week.
- With Wet FoodIf she eats wet food, dole it out at specific times so it doesn't sit out too long and spoil.
- A Consistent ScheduleIf you feed at specific times, either dry or wet food, be consistent. Feed once a day at the same time, or split the portion in half and feed twice a day, whichever seems to work best.
- Eat Her VegetablesRoughage is a healthy part of her diet. If your cat is strictly indoors, consider growing your own cat grasses to distract her from nibbling household plants that may harm her. The pet supply store likely offers a variety of grasses all set to go in their own containers.
- If All Else FailsOdor, texture and temperature of food are important and can help entice her to eat. Experiment a bit and you'll get the right combination for her that you can then stick to.
