Moving is already stressful enough for you without a confused kitty wondering what is goin' on! The packing boxes alone signal that something is quite out of the ordinary. To make things smoother, you'll want to keep her in a secure place to help prevent a mad dash through an open front door. Here are some simple cat tips to keep in mind before, during and after:
- She will be mighty suspicious of all those boxes. Leading up to the move, try to keep her routine as normal as possible, feeding and playing with her as usual, if not more.
- Pack your cat's belongings last.
- To eliminate extra work dealing with kitty, consider boarding her on moving day away from all the noise and activity.
- If you don't board her, keep her safe with all of her belongings in one room. Tack up a note to make sure the door is not accidentally opened by curious movers.
- Try to keep her routine as normal as possible. For example, give her the same food and water dishes, diet, bedding, cat scratcher and toys she is used to.
- She may feel cozier in her cat carrier than in a strange room at first.
- If you normally let your cat outdoors, don't let her out until she becomes comfortable in her new home.
- Give her a little extra affection!
